Temptations

  In moments of unguarded dream
You come to kiss my heart.
I feel you teasing at its seams
And warn you not to start.

And then I lay you down to weep,
Kiss your eyes and whisper love
(Those eyes that glisten when they speak
And tell what they are dreaming of).

I know you slip away to sleep,
Awash in love's dull ache.
Your own heart longs for one to keep
Though nothing here is yours to take.

Nothing here is mine to give
Though I might wish it so
I hope, I pray, you can forgive
That always I must tell you 'no.'

Another heart I'm pledged to love
And love it truly do -
Another heart must come above
The love I'd give to you.
